What is a Sugar Skull? A sugar skull is a representation of the human skull. They can be made out of sugar (edible candy) or crafted out of clay (folk art) and are generally very colorful and cheerful. Historically, sugar skulls where made in honor of a departed loved one as a happy celebration of their life. The life of departed loved one is celebrated during Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead).
Day of the Dead is a holiday in Mexico celebrating life. It is a day of remembrance, a day to remember loved ones that have passed away. This clay sugar skull is a symbol of the "Day of the Dead" (Dia de Muertos). Dia de Los Muertos is celebrated throughout Mexico with colorful festivals and parades, a very traditional family holiday.
