This grande Talavera sun is a three-dimensional hand-sculpted wall piece from the Gerardo collection, hand painted in Mexico and signed by the artist on the back. The sun has a gentle, pretty face, and its wavy rays sweep and flow toward the right-hand side, giving the piece real movement on the wall. The raised, sculpted form catches light and shadow through the day, so the sun looks a little different in the morning than it does at sunset. A hole on the back makes it easy to hang indoors or in a covered outdoor space.

What You'll Love

  • Three-dimensional sculpted design with deep relief, not a flat wall plaque
  • Flowing wavy rays swept to the right for a sense of motion
  • Hand painted in vibrant Talavera-style colors, signed by the artist
  • Generous grande scale that anchors a wall, patio, or entryway
  • A warm housewarming or wedding gift with real folk-art character

Hand painted, one of a kind: the exact sun shown in the photographs is the one you will receive.

Measurements (approximate)

  • Height: 13 inches
  • Width (length): 19 inches
  • Depth: 5 inches

Oversized item: because of its size and sculpted depth, this sun ships oversized in its own box with extra padding, and shipping is calculated on dimensional weight.

Care Instructions

  • Dust with a soft dry cloth or a soft brush to reach into the sculpted rays and face
  • For deeper cleaning, wipe gently with a barely damp cloth and dry right away
  • Avoid abrasive pads, bleach, and harsh cleaners, which can dull the hand-painted glaze
  • Hang from a wall anchor or screw rated well above the weight of the piece
  • If displayed outdoors, choose a covered spot and bring it inside before freezing wet weather.

Because each piece is hand painted, small variations and imperfections are normal and part of the character of Talavera folk art.
